What Do You Need To Play Snooker?

The game of snooker is one of the all time great billiard games in the world today. It is a game that commands real skill, strategy and precision. In this little guide, we give you an insight in all the items that you will require to play the game of snooker!

Chalk is very important in snooker as it helps to ensure good contact between the cue stick and the white ball. When it was first introduced in the 19th century, some billiards players bought it because they believed in its “magical” qualities!

Snooker Cue This is a fibreglass or wood tapered stick. and is approximately 1.5 metres long. The tip of the snooker cue is used to strike the ball.

Cue Extension This is a baton that is screwed on to the back of the snooker cue in order to make it easier to reach those long distance shots.

Spider The snooker spider is best used to elevate and support the tip of the cue and is very similar to the Snooker Rest

Snooker Rest Best used for long distance shots, this type of rest features a head shaped like an X and is used to help support the snooker cue.

Hook Rest This is used to provide a rest for the snooker cue without disturbing another ball that may between the player and the ball that is to be played.

Swan Rest Features a fork like prong and extended neck to help with long distance shots

Snooker Extended Rest Extends the rest by up to three feet using a mechanism in the butt

Triangle/Rack The piece of equipment is used for gathering the red balls into the formation required for the break to start a frame.

Extended Spider A combination of the spider rest and swan rest, the Extended Spider Rest is used to bridge over large packs of reds.

Snooker Ball Marker Is a an instrument which a referee can use to mark the position of a ball. Features a “D” shaped notch
