The trio of billiard games are a family of three types of games where a person playing tries to hit the ball into another ball, collection of balls, or into a corner. All contests have one thing in common: they are all played on a big, slate table that is covered in cloth. Another commonality is that they all require a long stick for striking the ball. This stick is for hitting to spearhead the ball and knock it into another ball, balls, and/or hole.

These games first played in the 1300’s in parts of Europe. But, there is heavily debates over the exact birthplace of these games, France or Great Britain seem to be more widely credited for this invention. Either way, by the 16th century, these games were popular and well-known in all the bars and drinking establishments throughout the countryside.

Billiard balls have been manufactured of a host of different materials throughout billiard games’ lifetime. In its infant days, the contest was played with clay-made balls. Then, in the eighteen hundreds, billiard balls were manufactured from ivory from elephant tusks. After this, elephants were disappearing at a shocking rate, and therefore, people began seeking other material to make billiard balls. By the late 1800’s, the balls were constructed of Celluloid, which was first kind of plastic harvested for production of goods. After this time, experiments were performed to construct billiard balls from a handful of plastics. Nowadays, billiard balls are manufactured from a plastic resin containing Saluc, clear acrylic, and polyester molds.

Billiards is a great game that is available in bars, clubs, bowling allies, lounges, and all other types of entertainment venues. Many of these centers display a sign showing billiards for the venue but some do not know what the game is. Billiard games are not just pool as a lot of individuals think. There are particularly three separate games that billiards have, they are:

* Carom Billiards – Carom Billiards is played without holes and the object is to bump the balls against the sides or a series of bumpers. Carom is played with three or four balls depending on the game of Carom played – there is balkline, three-rail, or straight rail. In this series of contests, there is a cue ball for each player and an object ball; at times there are two object balls it is 4-ball Carom.

* Pocket Billiards – This is by far the most popular game of billiards today. In most nations, this game is known as Pool. In the United States, when a person mentions “billiards,” they mean pool. In this game, there are 15 balls with numbers and colors and one solid, white ball called the cue ball. The three different games of Pocket Billiards are: Nine Ball, Eight Ball, and One-Pocket.

* Snooker – This type has 22 balls, and 15 are dark or light red balls. The other groups are marked with numbers to indicate points; each color has its own point value. The game of Snooker has a separate white cue ball for each opponent.
