Many Different Bar Stools to Choose From
Are you thinking of adding some bar stools to your home? If you have done any research at all, you will have found that bat stools come in many different shapes and sizes. There are as many types of bar stools as there are decorating schemes. And each year more and more stools come on to the market. The stools range from chic to folksy. Once limited to the domain of pubs and taverns, they are now common household furniture.
Historically, bar stools were 30 inches high to match with a standard height bar. However, designers began to make a shorter 24″ bar stool. The height of the stool depends on the table height to be serviced in most cases. There are instances when the stool is not meant to service a table, such as a musicians stool or an artists stool. Bars and restaurants generally prefer to have the higher models.
The lower bar stool is primarily suited for homes. The shorter stools are well suited for all members of the family including children and those with slight mobility problems. You can often find 24 inch bar stools pulled up to breakfast bars. These bars are a relatively new house design element. The use of these bars expands beyond eating breakfast. They are used for socializing, doing homework, eating, and reading the paper.
When choosing a bar stool you must make a decision about the type of seat that suits you best. There are fixed seat bar stools and swivel seat barstools. There are pros and cons to both. The fixed seat stool tends to be less expensive as it is not necessary to pay for the swivel mechanism. The swivel seat bar stool takes up slightly more lateral space but is generally a more convenient stool. There is no need to push the stool back from the table as you can simply turn the seat and your knees away from the table when you wish to get up.
Lastly, think about whether you prefer to have a back on your bar stool. Bar stools with backs are more comfortable as they can provide some back support. If you intend to spend limited time in the bar stool then back support might not be required. Backless bar stools are cheaper and have a lighter feel. Backless versions are less overpowering and do not look or feel cramped in small spaces. Backless bar stools can be tucked under the table when not in use further minimizes the air space they take up.
As you can see from the foregoing, you have a lot of options when it comes to picking the right bar stool for your home. Think about your needs. For example, is comfort the most important aspect? If so, you should choose a swivel seat bar stool with a back. Is your space at a premium? If so, perhaps you should choose a backless bar stool. Think about your needs and make the right choice.
